It has become imperative for organizations to implement sustainable IT practices. The increasing energy and resources demands from production and use of IT are contributing to Green House Gases (GHG) that has gone up by 70% from 1970 to 2004. Despite increased attention from business organizations and government towards implementing sustainable IT practices, Green IT is still in nascent stage in the context of Indian scenario in terms of awareness and implementation. This paper critically reviews the current literature on Green IT studies from both the academic and practitioner journals and publications. It subsequently provides important comments on its state of the art and gives a high level direction of research work being carried out by the authors.
