DEVELOPING A MEASUREMENT SCALE TO ASSESS THE IMPACT OF NEGATIVE SUPERVISORY BEHAVIOUR ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE

Abstract:

the intention of this paper is to provide a conceptual analysis of the impact of organizational environment on the behaviour of various sections of employee community within the organization and how the role of a supervisor will affect the the employees' behaviour, performance positively or negatively and also the impact in his personal life. The sudden bashing from the supervisor which is unexpected for an employee to accept, leads an employee to end up with depression and that can lead to certain unusual behaviour. An organization is made up of people, it's the human factor in the organization that differentiates a mediocre organization to an outstanding ones. Unfavourable behaviour of an employer results in burnout, substance abuse in the form of alcohol or drug use, reduced job satisfaction, increased absenteeism. To avoid such results, organizations, therefore, deeply introspect at what should be done to promote the physical and mental well-being of employees' through proper counselling. Organisation should be ethically and socially responsive and must ensure that organizations manage human resource in a proper manner with legal and ethical standards. There are around millions of people who spend a larger part of their lives serving organizations. The supervisor has to keep in mind how to support employee success, when mental health is a factor and how to improve the employees' psychological fitness. Psychologically healthy manpower and a collaborative and supportive workplace will benefit employees and employers alike. The mental health of employees' should be company's concern and a part of their programs and policies. The main focus area would be to provide an understanding of the impact of negative supervisor behaviour on the employee morale, welfare and ultimately on the overall organizational well-being. The ensuing paragraphs will discuss the biological basis of this behavioural change. The purpose of this paper is to propose a framework to develop a measurement scale to assess the impact of negative supervisory behaviour on employee performance. The ballgame and ramification of employment confide in the demeanor and dealings of supervisor. As long as he is gratified and appeased with his employees, the circumstances will be perpetuated accordingly and a harmonious locale will be incorporated. Disgruntled employee can create problems for organization, in order to take revenge from their supervisors. Unnecessary wastage of time utilised in handling or solving the dispute which is not required but creating problems for the smooth functioning of task. On a 5point likerd scale different statements has been framed on basic of employee performance and employers behaviour. (SB = EP = P and NSB =LEP=DP).
